PPT-Folie
- Seismic anomalies (decreases) are dominated by ridge wedge. Plume adds only up to a few % to the total anomaly. Separatable?
- Seismic signature of plume stem is weak, T-dependence of VS - decreases with depth, Plume stem may be disguised by strong wedge anomalies
- Cooling due to release of latent heat may significantly reduce the VS decreases and the signature of a „plume head“
- Modelled VS-decreases are strong at shallow depth in general agreement with
- a) surface wave analyses
- b) receiver functions
- Modelled VS-decreases are smaller within the plume stem and suggest excess temperatures of more than 300 K at 660km and about 250 K prior to melting
