My main research interest is in the area of prosody with its interfaces to phonetics and the
core linguistic areas of morphology, syntax, and pragmatics. A particular focus of my work is the role of
prosody in written language processing and reading. I mainly work on German.
I strive to integrate a grammar-theoretical and a psycholinguistic perspective on prosody and its neighbouring areas. Using a variety of empirical and formal methods, I investigate the interplay of these areas in written and oral language processing at the word, sentence, and text levels.
As an accomplished user of modern statistical techniques in both frequentist and Bayesian
frameworks, I have extensive experience in the analysis of
complex data sets in the areas of speech production, eye movements, acceptability studies, and corpus
studies. I use data obtained in experiments for both linguistic and psycholinguistic model
building and for understanding the interaction between oral and written language.
My linguistic
profile is distinguished by interdisciplinary exchanges with researchers in cognitive psychology and
literary studies.
I have led numerous research projects and many years of experience in supervising
BA, MA, and PhD students.
