Research initiative STS.ffm

is a research initiative based at the Department of Cultural Anthropology and European Ethnology, Goethe University Frankfurt am Main. We are a network of academics interested in working with approaches of the interdisciplinary international Science and Technoloy Studies (STS) in our respective areas of expertise.

Most participants have a background in cultural anthropology, others in sociology, as well as in information science. Participants are located in different cities, working for a series of organizations, both in basic and applied research.

We understand STS to be an interdisciplinary research field dedicated to explain the interplay between science, technology, and society in a world that is increasingly man-made, and exceedingly facilitated by scientific and technological knowledge.

We share an interest in ethnographies of collaborative hybrid (socio-material) associations, emphasizing relationality, co-production, and performativity in order to study how science and technology continually make new environments that, in turn, shape new ideas.
